Brian Hosford News
Arizona Speedway Debut
October 25, 2011October 15th was the 32b teams first trip to the new Arizona Speedway. The new track is located about 20 minutes from the entire teams houses so it was kind of like our home track for the night. The week prior we had a rough, rough night of racing at Canyon Speedway. Damaging our primary car in a early heat race accident we brought out the second car and was ready to see how it was going to perform. This is the second time we raced this car so it was still a little bit of a learning curve to see what the car likes and does not like. Also being a new track for us set up was a bit of a guess as well.
With an awesome pill draw of 47 we would start 7th in the 3rd heat. A good start and a pretty racey track allowed Brian to make the pass for 2nd about 4 laps into the race. Just as that took place the luck that has haunted us all year long would strike. A left rear wheel bleeder would break cause the left rear tire to go flat and as that happened the rear clip that held the brake pads in broke and the caliper spit the pads out causing a complete loss of brakes. Brian held on to finish 4th but gave away a potential heat race win.
Brian earned enough passing points to make the top 8 and pill drew 8, which means we would start 8th in the main event. The whole team was hustling to get the car repaired to make the main event call so we thrashed to get the finishing touches on the car and make some changes to the car to gain some speed in the feature. A slow start would have Brian fall back to 11th the first quarter of the race. Eventually the track slowly took some rubber and Brian found that groove a lap or 2 before some others getting passed some cars and up to 7th place. The 32b ran hard the last few laps finishing strong in the 7th place and learned a lot about the track and what the new car likes for the future.
This was not a points race and there was not pressure and the event went flawless. It will be our first and last showing at this track this year but the whole team is looking forward to racing there more next year.
