Sin City Round 1 ASCS vs USAC Trilogy
March 13, 2012March 8th marked the opening round of the ASCS vs USAC Trilogy Series. It is a three-race points championship that started at the Dirt Track in Las Vegas then goes to Santa Maria, Ca on July 7th and then finishes off the series at Canyon Speedway later in the year. Go Motorsports was ready to start the 2012 points series off strong and keep the momentum rolling into year. The team left Gilbert, AZ March 7th to embark on “The City That Does Not Sleep”.
Pill draw started off the night well as Brian pill drew number 10, which started us 3rd in the first heat. Mud packing took quite a while to get the sloppy surface somewhat ready for hot laps. Bob Ream Jr. and Kyle Danielson put the tune on the 32b and had a great heat race. Brian won his heat race from the 3rd starting spot on the fast track that had a hole in the middle of 1 and 2 the size of the Grand Canyon sort of speak. Brian was second highest in heat points and made the top 8 redraw. This is where the top 8 cars draw for the top 8 starting spots in the feature. We pill drew 8 which meant we would start the ASCS vs USAC battle in the 8th starting position.
The track changed quite drastically from heat races to the feature event. We shared the night with Modifieds and the World of Outlaws, so to say the least it was very dry and slick for the 20 lap main event. When the race was all said and done Brian ended up in the 12th spot after falling as far back as 18th during the event. “For the most part the middle of the pack was running single file around the bottom and I had to try something different to see if I could make up some ground. Unfortunately it was the wrong decision but we muscled our way back to save a 12th place finish,” Brian said. The car was good and the team is taking some good momentum into this Saturday night’s season opener at Canyon Speedway for the ASCS Canyon Region points series.
“I can not thank the following people enough for their hard work: Bob Ream Jr, Kyle Danielson, Bernie Weber, and Randy Coffin as all the great partners that make this possible. Go Motorsports, Coffin & Trout Fine Jewellers, Invision Auto Body, Weber Group, Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving, and Wright Signs.”
